The Main Alloy Grades of 5xxx Aluminium Sheet

5xxx aluminum sheet, that is Al-Mg alloy sheet, is the series with the best comprehensive performance among the eight aluminum alloys. The main alloying elements of the 5000 aluminum plate are aluminum and magnesium, of which the magnesium content is between 3% and 6%. The difference in the magnesium content determines the performance difference between the different grades of the 5xxx aluminum plates.

Advantages of 5000 aluminum plates

1. Good corrosion resistance

Among the 8 series of aluminum plates, the 5 series aluminum plate is the most resistant to acid and alkali corrosion, which makes the 5xxx aluminum plate suitable for the environment that most aluminum plates cannot adapt to like ships.

2. Good workability

The 5xxx aluminum sheet has high plasticity and good processing performance, which can be adapted to various processing methods such as bending, stamping, and stretching.

3. Good thermal conductivity

The 5 series aluminum plate has excellent thermal conductivity and is the best material for making equipment shells and radiators.

4. Good hardness and strong pressure resistance

It has relatively high strength and can be improved by further processing. It is the main material for making high-end mobile phone and computer casings.

Disadvantages of 5xxx aluminum

Although there are many advantages, 5xxx aluminum plate also has many shortcomings that have not yet been solved, such as poor wear resistance, high price, poor machining performance, etc.

Applications

5052 aluminum plate is often used in the manufacture of aircraft and automobile fuel tanks, oil pipes, and sheet metal parts of transportation vehicles and ships, instruments, street lamp brackets and rivets, hardware products, electrical enclosures, etc.

5083 aluminum plate is of low density and high strength. It is commonly used in marine aluminum plate, lightweight automobile aluminum plate, and aluminum plate for tank truck.

5086 aluminium sheet, with magnesium content between 3.5% and 4.5%, is a low magnesium and non-heat treatable alloy. It is widely used for the both sides of ships, decks, tankers, pressure vessels and transport equipment.

5005 aluminum is often used as conductors, cooking utensils, instrument panels, architectural decorations, interior and exterior materials.
