Offset Printing Plates: PS/CTP/CTCP Plate

In offset printing, the printing plate is the traditional PS plate. PS plate is a photosensitive offset printing plate with a multi-layer structure. It uses an aluminum plate as a support, and the aluminum plate is processed by various processes. The purpose of these processes is to give it photosensitive characteristics and printability. The PS version is mainly divided into two types: positive PS plate and negative PS plate.

With the development of digital technology, the traditional plate making process is gradually being replaced by CTP (computer-to-plate) technology. CTP technology means that the image information on the computer can be directly transmitted to the plate and saves the film step.

The CTP plate is an updated product of the regular PS version. Compared with the PS plate, there are more types and varieties of CTP plates. Now in the CTP market, the top three types of CTP plates are silver salt plate, thermal CTP plate and photopolymer CTP plate.

CTCP plate is an extension and development of CTP printing plate. CTCP printing technology images the digital information on the ordinary PS plate. The coating material of the CTP plate is very different from the coating material of the ordinary PS plate, which leads to a great difference in the printing suitability of the CTP plate and the ordinary PS plate in the printing process.

UV CTP plate has outstanding advantages in the integration with printing process. The consistency of the plate ensures the normal operation of each printing suitability. Printing companies do not need to worry about various problems caused by changes in printing suitability, nor do they need to spend a lot of time and energy to complete the matching of plates and printing machines.

All of them use aluminum plate base as support. However, ordinary aluminum plates do not have hydrophilic and lipophilic properties due to their smooth surface and poor adsorption, and their low hardness does not meet the wear resistance requirements of printing. Only after the surface roughening and anodizing of the aluminum plate, aluminum plate can be a good base for printing plates.
