Explore 1/3/5/6 series aluminum sheets, including pure aluminum, Al-Mn, Al-Mg, and Al-Mg-Si alloys. Learn their unique properties, applications in civilian, industrial & marine scenarios, plus popular 4x8 standard sheets and high-performance marine alumin

With continuous technological upgrades across industries and the continuous improvement of aluminum sheet subcategories, many high-performance and versatile aluminum sheets have become mainstream in the market. Currently, aluminum sheets on the market are mainly classified into series based on alloy composition, with significant differences in performance and application scenarios across each series. The 1-series, 3-series, 5-series, and 6-series are the most widely used, comprehensively covering most civilian and industrial applications.

Aluminum Sheet Types

The 1-series consists of pure aluminum sheets, with 1060 and 1050 as core representatives. It boasts advantages such as high purity, good plasticity, easy welding, and high cost-effectiveness, and is affordably priced. However, this series has relatively low strength and cannot be strengthened through heat treatment. It is only suitable for basic applications such as packaging decoration, general sheet metal work, and heat sinks, where structural strength requirements are not high. It is the most basic general-purpose aluminum sheet on the market.

The 3-series aluminum-manganese alloy sheets mainly use grades 3003 and 3004. Their core advantages are excellent rust and corrosion resistance, superior overall strength compared to 1-series aluminum sheets, and excellent formability and processing performance. With its stable rust-resistant properties, this series is widely used in air conditioning ducts, oil storage containers, kitchenware, and outdoor decorative panels, making it the preferred material for civilian rust-proof applications.

5-series aluminum-magnesium alloy sheets, represented by grades 5052, 5083, and 5086, feature significantly improved strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance due to the addition of magnesium. They are particularly suitable for harsh corrosive environments such as seawater and high humidity, making them a core material in the industrial, transportation, and shipbuilding sectors, and the main substrate for marine aluminum sheets.

6-series aluminum-magnesium-silicon alloy sheets, primarily 6061 and 6063, can be strengthened through heat treatment, combining high strength, high toughness, and easy welding, with outstanding structural stability. This series is mainly used in industrial structural components, molds, building frames, and high-end equipment accessories, making it a mainstream category of industrial structural materials.

Hot selling type

Among specialty aluminum sheets, marine aluminium plates are specialized materials suitable for harsh marine conditions, serving as core materials for shipbuilding, offshore platforms, and shipping equipment. The marine environment is characterized by high salt spray and strong oxidation, making ordinary aluminum plates prone to corrosion and deformation. Marine aluminum plates with optimized alloy ratios are perfectly suited for these environments. Currently, mainstream marine aluminum plates are primarily 5-series and 6-series, with core grades including 5083, 5086, 5052, and 6082.

Among them, 5083 marine aluminum plate boasts top-tier performance, high magnesium content, excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, low-temperature toughness, and weldability, and its strength far exceeds that of ordinary aluminum plates. It is resistant to aging and deformation even after long-term immersion in seawater and exposure to salt spray environments, and is widely used in core load-bearing and waterproof components such as hull bottom plates, decks, and offshore platform railings.

5052 marine aluminum plate offers better cost-effectiveness, with moderate strength and good formability. It is mainly used for non-core load-bearing components such as ship interiors, fuel tanks, water tanks, and small boat hulls. Marine aluminum plates, with their advantages of lightweight, ease of processing, and high corrosion resistance, can reduce ship energy consumption, improve navigation efficiency, and extend equipment lifespan, making them widely applicable to both civilian vessels and high-end marine engineering scenarios.

General-Purpose Aluminum Sheet

Aluminum sheet metal 4x8 is an industry-standard large sheet, measuring 1220mm × 2440mm. It's a must-have sheet material in the hardware, sheet metal, decoration, industrial, and shipbuilding industries. This specification isn't made of a single material; it encompasses mainstream alloys from the 1, 3, 5, and 6 series, allowing for flexible selection based on the application. Among these, 1060, 3003, 5052, and 6061 are the most commonly used.

Its popularity stems from standardization, high adaptability, and low cost. The standard size eliminates the need for secondary cutting, resulting in high sheet utilization, significantly reducing labor and material waste. Furthermore, the sheet surface is flat, offering excellent performance in secondary processing such as bending, welding, and stamping.

Each model has a clear function: 1060 focuses on low cost and is suitable for ordinary decoration and simple sheet metal; 3003 has outstanding rust resistance and is suitable for outdoor humid environments; 5052 is corrosion resistant and moisture resistant and is mostly used in marine auxiliary parts and hardware accessories; 6061 has outstanding strength and is suitable for industrial structural parts and precision equipment processing. With its versatility, it has long occupied the top spot in market sales.
