Different Kinds of Aluminium Alloys and Its Application

Aluminum alloy can be divided into two major categories: deformed aluminum alloy and cast aluminum alloy according to the processing method.

The deformed aluminum alloy is further divided into a non-heat treatable reinforced aluminum alloy and a heat treatable reinforced aluminum alloy.

Cast aluminum alloy can be divided into aluminum silicon alloy, aluminum copper alloy, aluminum magnesium alloy, aluminum zinc alloy and aluminum rare earth alloy according to chemical composition.

The deformed aluminum alloys have nine series:

1. 1000 Series

The 1000 series is the most aluminum-containing series in all series. The purity can be over 99.0%. Its classic ones is 1050 aluminum sheet and 1060 aluminum sheet.

It features cheap price, good electrical conductivity and high corrosion resistance. It can be used to make electrical appliance, chemical equipment, signs,etc.

2. 2000 Series

The 2000 series is well known for high hardness. The representatives are 2024, 2A16 and 2A02. The 2000 series belong to aviation aluminum.

3. 3000 Series

3000 Series belongs to Al-Mn alloy, which is a series with anti-rust function. Its representatives are 3003 aluminium sheet and 3A21. It can be used to make storage tank, cooking utensils and piping,etc.

4. 4000 Series

The 4000 series is a series with higher silicon content. Usually the silicon content is between 4.5 and 6.0%. It is of great heat resistance and wear resistance. It can be used as building materials, mechanical parts, and welding materials.

5. 5000 Series

5000 series belongs to a common-used aluminum plate series. The main element is magnesium and the magnesium content is between 3-5%. The main features are low density, high tensile strength, high elongation and good fatigue strength, but they can not be heat treated. It is used to make fuel tanks, oil pipe, ship parts,etc.

6. 6000 Series

The 6000 series mainly contains magnesium and silicon. It is a cold-treated forged product, which is of high corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. Its representative is 6061 aluminum plate.

It can be used in various industrial structural parts that requires high strength, weldability and corrosion resistance such as trucks, construction, ships,etc.

7. 7000 Series

The 7000 series is AL-mg-cu alloy, which can be heat treatable. It also belongs to the aviation series. It belongs to super hard aluminum alloy that is of good wear resistance and weldability, but of poor corrosion resistance. Its representative is 7075.

8. 8000 Series

Its main form is aluminum foil and its representative is 8011. Haomei food aluminum foil has FDA certificate.

9. 9000 Series

The 9000 series aluminum alloy is a spare alloy.
