Anodizing is an electrochemical process that can form a strong and durable ceramic layer on the surface of aluminum. The chemical process is just like the chemical reaction equation that occurs during anodization of acidic electrolyte:

Anodizing process: 2Al+3H2O→Al2O3+6H++6e-

Dissolution process: Al2O3+6H+→2Al3++3H2O

Cathode process: 6H++6e-→3H2

The anodizing process can produce oxide layers with various properties. Therefore, according to different types of anodizing processes, corresponding oxide layers can be produced. Appropriate thickness, decorative or functional, transparent or opaque, colored or non-colored, abrasion resistant or electrically insulating types all can be obtained. The thickness of the anodized film increases with temperature. When it is anodized, regardless of whether it is plated on either side of the anode, the thickness of the film can reach 20 micron.
